Firstly, let’s go back to basics and break down exactly what an ‘about us ‘page is. Essentially, it is a page that tells consumers a bit about a company/business; it gives visitors an insight into the identity of a business.
Tip One: Be Authentic
So, our first piece of advice is to make sure that your page is authentic and specific to your business/company. This may seem blindingly obvious, but as experienced website designers, it is surprising how often we see companies churn out a monotonous and generic blurb on this page. Instead, make it personable and show some personality.
Tell a story; keep it simple, interesting and informative. Some interesting things to talk about maybe: your background and professional experience; motives for founding the company; business philosophy, ethos or work ethic. This will give consumers a better understanding of the business as a whole.
Use the tone of voice to reflect the tone of your company. Would your face-to-face delivery be formal and academic or more relaxed and colloquial? Remember to keep it genuine, and never try to be something that you are not.
Also, make sure that your text is customer orientated. You want to ensure that you retain your audience’s attention, so talk about their challenges and objectives. Show them that you understand things from their perspective and want to help.
Tip Two: Show Your Face!
Our second tip is to have photographs of your staff on this page. These can be either formal business photos or more informal and candid photographs – whatever you feel best suits your company. People buy into other people, therefore, photographs of employers and employees are important as it allows visitors to see the faces of the business and who they could potentially be working with. For example, people on LinkedIn are 11 times more likely to connect with users if they have a profile picture than those without. People trust people who have photos of themselves – it’s human nature.
Third Tio: Be Approachable!
Thirdly, include your address and contact details, because users need to know how to get in touch with you. Linking to social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram is also common. Having a clear call to action is paramount; this is how you convert site users into loyal customers.
